About CyclePower

Cycle Power is an intrepid fundraising initiative, combining the challenge of long-disance cycling with a chance to make a tangible contribution to projects which promote positive outcomes to people with disability overseas.

After a successful tour of Vietnam last year, CyclePower, led by champion handcyclist Gary Connor, is aiming to make a difference for people with disability.

In 2012 16 Victorians will be heading to Cambodia, 1st - 10th June, raising funds to help empower women with disability.

Participants will cycle 350km from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to build a pilot Women's Wheelchair Basketball program.

Establishing this competition and the first Cambodian wheelchair basketball teams will lift the profile of women involved in sport. It will encourage other Cambodian women with disability to become aware of their potential to participate in sporting programs.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

  • Primarily aimed at improving health and social wellbeing for Cambodian women with disability
  • 16 basketball wheelchairs will be donated to charity partner Stand Up Cambodia for the athletes to train and compete in
  • DSR will send an Australian coach with disability to host a wheelchair basketball coaches' clinic in late 2012
